Access Issues
There are many and varied barriers which make participation in community life difficult if not impossible for many people with disabilities. These usually have very little to do with the nature of the person's disability.
Just some of these include:
-
negative attitudes or behaviour ranging from a lack of welcome to blatant discrimination
-
inadequate accommodations made in employment and commercial settings
-
limited access to transport, housing, and recreation options
-
poor physical access to the built environment
There are many other areas of social and home life that present barriers to people with disabilities, and for those people in their formal and informal networks.
