Privacy 

Your personal information is important to us. We recognise that your privacy is very important to you too and that you have a right to access and control personal information held by us about you. We know that providing personal information is an act of trust and we take that very seriously.

Our Privacy Policy describes how we handle and protect your personal information and safeguard your privacy.

If you make us aware of any concerns or problems with the way we treat your privacy, we will take these issues seriously and work to address these concerns.

Statement of Rights & Responsibilities

Access Recreation is committed to providing quality services to people receiving services and considers that individual rights are integral to service quality.  The association believes that Peoples should be well informed about their rights as a service user, and be confident that these will be respected by service providers such as Access Recreation.

As well, Access Recreation believes that people should be well informed about the responsibilities expected of them as a service user, and that workers should be confident that these will be respected and fulfilled by the individual (or carer/advocate).

This Statement of Rights and Responsibilities is limited to those rights relevant to people with disability who are receiving services from Access Recreation.  It does not incorporate legal rights, perceived social or moral rights, other rights as detailed in domestic legislation, or United Nations declarations. However, Access Recreation and its workers acknowledge that people with disability have the same rights as all other Queensland and Australian citizens.

Rights

  • to have a personal advocate act or speak on your behalf in any matter
  • to make a complaint without fear of retribution
  • to have a process available to deal with any concerns you may have about the service or to resolve disputes (this is outlined on the Complaints Procedure sheet in Access Recreation's Information Kit)
  • to be treated with courtesy, dignity and respect
  • to have your privacy respected
  • to be protected from abuse, neglect & exploitation
  • to not be discriminated against because of type or degree of disability, cultural background, race, sex, religion, or financial circumstances
  • to have the service you're using explained to you
  • to receive an efficient service of good quality
  • to be provided with opportunities to enhance and promote positive image, competencies, and social status
  • to be provided with opportunities to realise physical, social, spiritual, emotional and intellectual development
  • to the least restrictive alternative in all support provided, so as to least restrict your rights and opportunities
  • to flexible services which can change as your needs change (within funding limitations)
  • to make decisions about all services received, including the right to decline a service
  • to recognition of individual needs and goals
  • to use ordinary community settings and facilities which are available to all other citizens
  • to opportunities for the development and maintenance of skills
  • to have all personal information recorded (or otherwise known) about you treated confidentially
  • to access all personal information recorded about you
  • to access information about Access Recreation which is readily available to the general public
  • to withhold or give consent which enables Access Recreation to seek information about you from, or provide information about you to, other service providers
  • to information about other services available
  • to pay for all fees associated with services received
  • to become a financial member of Access Recreation, giving you voting eligibility at general meetings 

Responsibilities

  • to treat workers with courtesy and respect, and to refrain from abuse
  • to conduct yourself in a socially acceptable manner, and treat other members of the public with courtesy and consideration
  • to work co-operatively with the worker to develop, implement and review an individualised Service Plan on your behalf
  • to be committed to achieving your goals as identified in your individualised Service Plan, and to persevere even when you might get despondent, bored, or frustrated
  • to inform the worker of any changes you'd like to introduce to your Service Plan
  • to give as much notice as possible to the worker if you are unable to meet a scheduled appointment eg. if you are sick, or otherwise cannot participate in the planned activity, phone the worker as soon as possible and negotiate an alternative arrangement
  • to contact the worker if you haven't been able to keep an appointment, and explain what happened
  • to discuss all matters related to the service you are receiving, and ask questions so that you are fully informed, and so that you do not make assumptions
  • manage your own personal care as much as possible, and at least to the extent agreed in the Service Plan
  • be prepared by:
    • knowing what your activity is on that day
    • being where and when you have arranged to meet the worker
    • wearing clothing which is appropriate to your particular activity on that day
    • being appropriately groomed for the particular activity on that day
    • having any special equipment or items necessary for participating in your activity
    • having enough money with you on the day to cover your own activity and transport expenses
    • being aware of your own personal safety, and if possible, that of others around you
